And very frustrating for those of us who have an annex site, where the internet link provides access to *everything*

Very poor performance from Service Birmingham, but as usual they will slide through this like teflon.

What I find most gaulling is that they admit responsibility to the Headteachers, but to the coal face staff the only persons word they have that it is not your fault, is your own. Plenty of staff either do not believe it, or just need a target they can vent at. The school IT Manager gets it in the neck because a third party is unable to run a reliable service.

Frankly if they knew more about their clients they'd realise that the most traffic heavy week in the school calendar is this one. Many schools are winding down and either showing IPTV style videos or giving the kids free time on the interwebs!

SIMS or CMIS...? both can be bought direct from maker, we've bought our capita support direct and saved a packet

HR Portal and Payroll are not linked directly to BGFL and can be accessed via a VPN connection but Link like to make it extremely difficult to leave their clutches.

Sophos is the other issue, as anyone leaving Link would need to buy their own AV solution, Firewall and also Remote Backup as most schools use the Links to backup admin servers

Anything else that we need to add to the list?

With ms agreement you can get av. Also you could use pfsence for a firewall and the smoothie for filtering or both.

We're looking at Smoothwall, not sure yet about firewall as the Virgin edu one is rumoured to be good, AV wise anything has got to be better than Sophos...
