The finalists for the 12th annual BETT Awards have been announced by organisers Emap, and partners Becta and the British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA).
Every year, the BETT Awards receive a large number of high quality entries from ICT educational suppliers of all shapes and sizes, hoping to win one of the outstanding awards that commend exemplar ICT products or services intended to improve standards in UK educational institutions.
The BETT Awards are considered to be the most prestigious in the education sector, and is committed to five key principles:

Provide options for practitioners, learners and parents who want to use innovative and distinctive educational resources
Reward inclusive and accessible designs.
Richard Joslin, exhibition director at Emap for BETT and the BETT Awards comments: “There are a huge number of educational suppliers that offer our sector unprecedented products and services to ensure that learning is continually advancing. The BETT awards offer a fantastic opportunity for these companies to receive the recognition and reward that they so truly deserve. Ray Barker, Director of BESA adds: “Every year the BETT Awards recognise excellence in the design of products and services which are positively influencing the education sector. With technology in education growing ever more innovative, it is important that these prestigious awards give credit to those who deserve it.”
Stephen Lucey at Becta concludes: “The BETT Awards provide a great snapshot of technology both emerging and in current use. The range of categories and diversity of finalists demonstrate the increasing number of high quality products and services available to enhance learning and teaching. The awards, as always, highlight the rich opportunities provided by technology when effectively used and point the way to resources judged as an exemplar of learning technology at its best, to guide users and reward and further stimulate providers.”
The awards are judged by over 60 educational professionals over two days and each entry goes through a meticulous judging process. Judges review each entry based on a number of criteria such as design, cost-effectiveness, effective learning and teaching styles. For the technical evaluation, the robustness and resilience of each product, and its accessibility for those with specific needs is considered.
Winners will be announced at the BETT Awards ceremony taking place on Wednesday 13 January 2010 at the Hilton, Park Lane, London, the evening of the first day of BETT, the world’s largest technology in education show.

12th November 2009, 10:58 PM #6 You need to have *proven* *educational* benefits, not cost savings, not cuddliness ... oh, and a good marketing budget!
It is often hard for tech support to show it makes an educational difference.
