How on earth do you hook up a SKY+ HD box to a DVD / HD recorder. [ Samsung DVD-SH893 ] I can't for love or money work it out. I have tried HDMI, composite and scart but all I can get is either:
A: Nice Picture from Sky
B: Nice Picture from Sky
C: Nice Picture from Sky
There is NO video input on the DVD/HD recorder only video out. I would like to think before you can record you have to INput a signal ?
As you can tell I don't have sky, but the now the school does.
Not too sure about any copy protections that might be present in a HDMI signal
If the DVD/HD recorder has no external input, is it perhaps a freeview box with a HD that lets you burn recorded stuff to dvd?

Not sure if it will work but worth a try. I would like to think that a DVD / HD recorder will be able to record from SKY - if not what a waste of time !! The whole thing is a joke anyway as it's in the staff room and no one will use it.
on a slightly non-related note, we took delivery of our clickview 24/7 server today.. Unfortunately didn't get it set up in time for tonight's CL games, but looking forward to this new bit of equipment :)
We had them in - they could not get it to work on an XP PC. The lady was at the school all day trying to get it to work. Did not really fill me with confidence........ We didn't get it but may look again at some point.Quote:

You would really need to use a PC and one of these Blackmagic Design: Intensity and even then you will probably have to strip out the HDCP from the HDMI.

We bought the whole server box thing, comes with windows 7 and all the software installed and tuner cards etc all configured..
This was the one we got: ClickView - the digital video solution for schools
I once had a DVD Recorder with Hard Drive it didn't have a tv tuner as I bought it to hook up to my original sky box not sky+ the only issue was that some channels on sky and some programs output copy protection signal and thus the box would not record them.
Of course I solved that issue.

Just got it working - [ and recording ] - but I feel it will be too complex for the teachers to setup and record something !!
In the end Scart on the Sky+ box to Scart on the Recorder, then HDMI on the recorder to HDMI on the TV. I suppose they >> could << use the SKY+ box to set the recording and then you could dub that off to either the HD or a DVD [ once the teacher has formatted it ? ] Or you can set the timer on the recorder and leave the channel on the sky+ box and pray no one changes the channel..........

The best way to record (encrypted) Sky is Sky+ / Sky HD. Using an external recorder just seems silly? I understand that if you want the recording moved off the Sky+ box (for space reasons or to show it elsewhere) then use a recorder but otherwise seems like a massive faff.
For FTA / Freeview channels you can record straight onto a PC as Rabbie Burns did.
Edit: This is not legal but there is the Sky Player streaming software, it might be possible to capture that?
I'm wiping my hands of it anyway - I have far to much other stuff to support and look after. I'll knock up some instructions on how to use it, after that it has nothing to do with me. I'm fed up as it is now having to wipe bottoms everyday........
