Here are some details. I use Lehman and am pleased with their service.

Me too. I now have both our Canon digital SLR cameras out of action - one has some dust in the lense and, as of half an hour ago, a bent pin in the CF-card reader port, and the other is giving "err 99 - shooting is not possible" and freezing up whenever we press the shutter button. Do I take them to the nearest Jessops or other camera shop (probably Farnham or Woking), or can anyone recommend somewhere to post them off to?

Give the guys at Lehman a call, I'm not sure if they do SLRs but I would imagine so. It's pretty much the same technology. I'd give Jessops a miss. If for no other reason than they could go belly-up at any moment so I'm told!
Lehmanns in Stoke-on-Trent are authorised Canon repairers, they will also look at other makes too, including Nikon and Sanyo, I believe. They did provide us with an estimate of repair costs to a Nikon compact a couple of years ago.
They will do SLRs too.
