Wall mounted projector wobble

Hi all

I've got a new school building with SMARTboard SBB885i with UF75W Projector in each room. The projectors are wall mounted and short throw, directly above the boards.

The problem is that the wall construction is lightweight with plywood panels inside to support the board. Minor flexing of the wall caused by doors closing and (to a lesser extent) footsteps causes the projected image to move relative to the board. The steep projection angle magnifies the effect, causing the image to shake up to six inches at the bottom.

Has anyone else come across this problem, and is there a solution?

Seriously though I can't think of a way of stabilising the projector as it's probably the wall that wobbles. we have a couple of ceiling mounted projectors that suffer from a similar problem if the little darlings are being heavy footed.

We've already cranked down the door-closers to their lowest setting, but seems like the walls are made of cardboard! One of the advantages of wall-mounted projectors is avoiding ceiling wobble issues, but this is a new one on me...

I'm in the same boat in a portacabin :-(

Put the projectors on the floor projecting upwards.

You won't get a quick solution to this I'd say if you have slowed the door closers down you really need the wall toughening up to stop it moving so much but that will be mega bucks. This is why I avoid wall mounted projectors as much as I can as teenagers have habits of slamming doors when asked to leave a room for poor behaviour etc... But so far are not that good at stamping on the 1st floor thus wobbling the unit on the ground.

I've had a similar problem in our new build but with ceiling mounted projectors. We got the projector-shakes when people walked down the corridors, slammed doors, or when heavy lorries drove past. Better quality projector brackets and mounts that we insisted our supplier fit at their expense has lessened the problem.

Periodically we make sure all the nuts are tight.

This is something I see time and time again in new builds and unfortunately there ain't much you can do about it.

Do you know if the section of the wall was strengthen with timber pattressing were the projectors are installed or are they fitted directly to plasterboard?

you can reduce the image size by putting the projector yet closer to the wall (assuming you have adjustable mount), this should reduce the vibrations effect.

The wall sections have timber patressing. One suggestion was to move the boards that are worst affected (the ones on the walls with doors) to different walls, but of course the other walls wouldn't be strong enough to hold them.

you can purchase anti vibration mounts (isolators) for projectors (bit expensive though) but you could try remounting your projector using a antivibration material? (rubber washers or somin')

That won't be much use as the whole wall is wobbling, not just the projector

I realigned a UF75W for a customer last week and I noticed there was quite alot of play in the ball joint. I wonder if there is anyway of tightening it up, so its not bouncing around as much?
