Question In need of new headphones.

    Hi all,

First post here - Just thought i'd ask a quick question.

I am currently in the process of ordering some new headphones in for my school, I can't really decide on what ones to get so maybe you can help me. We ordered some of the cheaper ones last time - they broke within a couple of weeks so I am looking for something a little more sturdy, not too expensive and suitable for use around children (this being a primary school).

Any suggestions? I know '100% child-proof' headphones don't exist so as I said, just looking for something thats quite sturdy and will survive more that a couple of weeks.

    Thanks.

    Joe.

There's some I saw recently which were fab! They used replaceable sound cables - as often it's the wire part that gets damaged. Can't remember what make they were though.

Thanks for that but the only ones I could find were Shure and AKG ones which are stupidly expensive. I will keep looking though for a cheaper alternative - Thanks once again!

They seem to be very similar to the headphones that were broken in a few weeks - I think maybe we should be looking at those educational headphones with the metal padded head band, what do you think?

    Thanks anyway!

I was on about these: Easi-Headphones

About £13 a pair BUT if they last longer than a week...

I've just bought a load of these cheap as chips but decent quality. Thanks to Chris at Computer Products for sourcing them. :-)

Brilliant! Thank-you very much. They look like they might be a lot better quality. Does the ear padding come off fairly easily?

I've not tried them - but since thy sell replacements I guess they will come off if they need to - put it doesn't look like they'll just fall off of their own accord. Maybe ask for a sample before you commit to buying lots?

Has anyone managed to get hold of any of these though? Hills Components UK certainly look the job, braided cable, moulded microphone etc, price was good when we saw them at BETT but they always seem to say out of stock.

We have some ComputerGear 1507 headphones (including inline microphone) which we bought from RM for £8. They seem pretty indestructible even in our primary classrooms.

We've started getting ones like these from eBuyer: Cosonic CD-760MV Black Headphone with Microphone.. | Ebuyer.com

Still cheap as chips so not too fussed when they break, but they stand up to a classroom better than the thin, free-on-an-airplane style headphones. There's a cheaper alternative as well, Cosonic Multimedia Headphones - 3.5mm Jack Connection | Ebuyer.com, basically just search eBuyer for "cosonic" and take your pick

Of course, as an all-girls selective grammar, equipment here doesn't take such a deliberate battering as in other places, just carelessness, but they've certainly worked well for us. Treating headphones as consumables will lead to a lot less stressing out, I find.
