    Windows Media Services - Alternative

    Hello All,

a few years back (before moving into our new shiny BSF School) we used to have an "Intranet" server which was basically IIS with Windows Media Services, used to stream videos to machines on our LAN.

I have been looking into resurrecting the project, but was wondering if there are any good open source alternatives to stream XVID/DivX files to the network, and even better over port 80.

    Thank you
    Garry

Winamp can stream XVid and DIVX with the right codecs and its free. It might be worth looking into?

I seem to recall AngryTechnician posted something on his blog about this and VLC but I might be wrong.

MythTV will record direct from DV-B or DVT or terrestrial channels, youtube etc.
THe plugin mythweb will allow teachers to pre-record or stream to the classroom. For everything else we just put it on Moodle and it streams from the browser.
