Question Photo slideshow for website homepage

How can I take a set of 6-8 photos(JPEG) and turn them into a slideshow for our website's home page? (Preferably using free software.) (We can host a .swf file.)

I expect it much depends upon which platform your site is running on. Joomla has an excellent slideshow option.

You can use JavaScript / JQuery to do this quite easily - simply have a script on your web page that loads a new image in to an IMG tag once every 10 seconds or so. I think JQuery even has a fancy fade effect available these days. An example that might come in handy:

I use Highslide for all of the images and slideshows on my website.

It requires a bit of programming but is not too difficult to implement. Plenty of tutorials on the site.

i seem to remember you can create a .gif animation in photoshop (or similar, if you have it) which you might be able to embed on your home page. It's been a while since i did it but i'm sure i did a few years ago. there'll be tutorials on the web i'm sure. it would mean recreating it if you wanted to change any of the images but from (distant) memory, it's not a tough or lengthy process.

that said, there's probably much more appropriate technology out there now

    Hi,

You don't actually need to download any software to do this.

Perhaps have a look at the animations at the LoxiaStudio website.

Everything is done on-line, once you have created your animations simply copy and paste the line of code that is generated into your site.

You could try a few different animations in either Flash of jQuery then see which one you prefer. You can make them as fancy or a basic as you'd like.
