    xBox 360 on the Network

We have 2 xbox 360's at two of our campus' in the Student Common Rooms, one of the games was stolen the other week but returned the day after with the excuse that a student wanted to 'copy' a game. The exact same happened on the other campus although the game wasn't returned.

I'm no gamer, to be honest I'm not interested in them but theres an ethernet port, is there a way to save games on to a network share and connect them that way so the disks aren't needed? or something to stop the disks going missing?

    Cheers

No, the only way to "save" games is to install them to the HD on the xbox but even then you need the disk to load up the game.

the only way you could do that is by modding it.
    modding it = no warrenty

You can't back games up to a network share, the Xbox needs the disc inserted to play the game. The only solution I can think of is to lock the Xbox up (with the disc inside) and they'll have to ask a member of staff with a key if they want to change the disc - unfortunate but if they can't be trusted I can't see what else you can do really (other than take the Xbox off them completely of course)

Off topic but I really hope that's not coming out of the school budget, with an attitude like that and the climate as it is, that's a disgraceful stance to take!

It does come out of the College budget at some stage, however; the rooms have been a great success and another room is being created for the next academic year.

buy the games and download them direct to xbox. No game disk needed. It attaches to the xbox live tag, so can be downloaded on up to 5 machines.

None of my games work like that, I still need the disc, it just reduces the loading times...

EDIT: just re-read the post, misunderstood you sorry!

I downloaded the content to my xbox, and sold back my games to CEX. Everything boots on my HDD, no disks needed. Annoys people when mine boots up in lightning speed and loads the game much faster than theirs

Yup, just buy games from XBLA - no discs then!

I would definitely security mark any discs and cases you have, catalogue them too.

OK now I am confused... you download the content from the DVD? How? I know the option is there to install to HDD but every Xbox I have used has still needed the disc (to stop people doing exactly what you describe)

no, from XBLA. I had the disks, went to MS, said my xbox keeps scratching disks, they gave me the code to download content from XBLA for free (as I already paid for the games), then I sold back the games to CEX. lol

If you leave Xbox/PS3 games unattended they are going to get stolen. I think that would happen anywhere.
