help find a basic voice to MP3 recording software that can be distribute to all compu
Hi,
I am looking for a software that can record voice to MP3 files, and can be easly depolyed to all computers in the school. Using msi or just by running it from a shared drive will be the best.
I don't want to use Audacity as it requires each user to configure it to use the MP3 plugin, and also access to where the plugin is installed which is usually the C: drive, we don't give C: drive access to students.
If there is one even a paid option that you know, I'll be happy to hear.
Looking for something very basic and easy to use.
Thanks

10th March 2011, 03:11 PM #2 If you use audacity you can or should be able to use the mp3 plugin along side audacity ( obviously with a microphone on each said computer ) and record what you want, file --> save as --> select mp3 from file format options, rename accordingly and save to preffered destination
Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder
Audacity: How do I download and install the LAME MP3 encoder?

Hi,
Audiacity requires each user to configure the MP3 plugin, way to complicated for our kids.
Also I can't give access to any folder on the C: drive as it is blocked by a group policy to hide it and block it.
Thanks

Hi Mac,
Thank you for this information, have you used this software? is it easy to deploy accross the school?
I have no problem searching on the Internet for "free mp3 recoding", but would like to know if someone has experience with a specific software, that is simple to use, and easy to deploy to all the computers in the school.
Thanks

Fair enough
No I have not used it and I would use an exe to MSI and use GPO to push out the MSI once you are happy with a piece of software that meets your requirements, either yourself or a teacher to use a few and see which they prefer and then push that out.
Will leave other people to make suggestions etc now

Try adding these to your login script. You might need to alter the path depending on where you're put the lame encoder files.
Code:
if exist "C:\Program Files\Audacity\audacity.exe" REG ADD HKCU\Software\Audacity\Audacity\Locale /v Language /d en /f
if exist "C:\Program Files\Audacity\lame_enc.dll" REG ADD HKCU\Software\Audacity\Audacity\MP3 /v MP3LibPath /d "C:\Program Files\Audacity\lame_enc.dll" /f
It also stops it asking what country you're in.

Thank you very much K.C.leblanc,
I had found a solution thanks to your advise.
I installed Audiacity on one computer, then copied all the folder from program files\audacity to a place on a mapped network drive.
I created a shortcut to the exe and change the "start in" location to point to the users home folder.
I then created a preference policy to change the following regestry key to all users:
HKCU\software\audiacity\audiacity\mp3
And set update to:
Reg_sz MP3LibPath s:\software\........\lame_enc.dll
This is the location where I installed the separate MP3 converetor dll
So far it works
