Video editing software recommendations please!
Could people recommend some video editing software to use on Windows 7? It's for a college but a very wide range of abilities need to be catered for so probably need something fairly basic. Needs to work with FlipCams too. We have some money available to buy something reasonable if necessary.
(Have Windows Movie Maker but having issues getting it to work on network drives. Tried the reg fix via GP but it fails.)
Thanks.

MovieMasher is open source and web-based, so you just install it on a server and away you go:

Serif looks intresting.
Can it easily be deployed over the network and do students require admin rights?
We messed around with Pinnacle but deploying is a pain + it does not work well without giving the student admin rights.

I didn't have any trouble deploying Serif using PSEXEC. Our students have power user, but defiantly not admin rights.
If you contact Serif and say you're interested in buying they'll probably send you a copy to have a look at.

It was not a problem to install.
As said - they are happy to send demo disks - however their sales drones will harry you to the grave & beyond

I looked at the VLMC and it looks promising.
However still a beta version. It sometimes gives errors during usage.
We'll keep an eye on it.

We're about to start looking at Lightworks Beta Lightworks; the Lightworks Beta EULA states only one copy can be run by the customer however Editshare (the company behind Lightworks) have confirmed to me today by e-mail that we can use it through out our school as long as someone has signed up to the Lightworks forum.
I can't find any downloads for VLMC; I think it's in very early planning / development stages.

5th April 2011, 03:57 PM #13 I'm currently using Camtasia Studio for a screencasting project and quite like the video editor. It appears OK for editing video from sources other than Camtasia Recorder.
Haven't looked at things like network deployment. Working fine on my Windows 7 laptop and desktop.
Speech to text option, iPad output, creation of SCORM packages, good zoom and pan features, captioning etc.
