    Casio XJ-A130 Purple spotty image

We've got a 6 month old Casio projector that's projecting a violet image (occasionally dark purple) with black flecks.

the lens has been cleaned... it's as if there's dust behind the lens.

    Has anyone experienced this?

Not seen that before but it could be a fault with the colour wheel, get it logged with Casio I guess.

Not seen it either, but ...

isn't that one of the lampless ones?
I take it you've checked the cable? (worth a look if not)
Otherwise, it sounds like a problem with either the internal processing gatgetrymabob, or one of the light sources going on the blink, in either case a warranty claim

Got a call into support already - waiting for response. I was just wondering if anyone else had had this.

Yes i have had some in they get clogged with dust on the optical engine, can not be cleaned buy a user it must go to service if it is dust for a deep clean, just to check it can you winfd the lens fully out and in see if you can focus the purple spots they will be at a different point to normal focus if it is dust, you might not get it quite in focus but you will see it start to come in.

Try it and let me know.

PS if it is dust it is NOT covered to clean this under warrenty.

Come on it's only 6 months old if it's been used in the environment it was designed for i.e a normal one how can they not sort it under warranty?

HI, its because a deep clean is classed as maintainence not a breakdown.

Problem is, Casio sell them to educational establishments with 5 year warranties. It is normal in an educational establishment for dust to exist. So, how is it not a breakdown that the device cannot handle dust after 6 months in the environment it is designed for?

Given that it's flashing purple, the problem is slightly more than dust flecks behind the lense.

I too agree that a filter-free product should last more than 6 months before needing a deep clean and would be prepared to challenge them on that. Sales of goods act - fit for purpose.

I've just heard of another school locally that's had a similar and am awaiting a response from their NM to find out whether he got it dealt with under guarantee.

Hi i think we ned clarification i was not told it was "flashing purple" i was told it was purple flecks whis is consistant with requiring deep clean, if it is a pixel or flashing problem then i agree it is a warrenty issue.
I do see quite a few projectors that have dust ingress after only 6 months to a year, i am not defending the "its not warrenty" issue i would love it to be covred fior deep cleans in its first year or however long.
With more info or a phone number i would be happy to offer FREE help and advice to sort this. I am basing my assuption for deep clean on my experiance and knowlage and the brief description of the problem above.

Oh and the dust is not generally behind the lens they are normally in the optical engine.

knew this would happen, (my previous reply to another thread) how can a filterless projector last the distance, in my opinion we will only see this problem escalate, casio may be busy this year with swap outs and warranty calls,

Problem as stated in the original post

I've just had word back form the other school. Their projector was sent back to Casio and had the optics replaced under guarantee.

Ours will be doing the same next week hopefully.

Bear in mind that this is one or 2 incidents. DLP technology (ie. filterless) has been around for a long, long time, and is a proven technology. The only new thing with the casio's is the type of optics, and as with any first generation technology there will no doubt be a few problems.
