HDMI woes please help

Hi there, we have an optimax 1080p projector mounted in our main hall and in our AV Cabinet behind the curtain at the side of the stage. We have tried using a 20m amplified HDMI cable (which is the idea distance for trunking and fitting), but it seems like the cable doesn't provide enough grunt for the auto source selection to detect it. It takes about 5 mins of cycling for it to eventually pick up and the picture quality is pretty poor.

I understand you can send HDMI over Cat6, but could someone please explain how its setup and what equipment I would need to purchase?

You would need to purchase something like this here then plug a smaller HDMI lead out of the projector and into the Extender - run a ca5e/cat6 cable through to the AV cab and then have the other end of the Extender plugged into the network lead with a small HDMI lead out into the computer.

For this job, we use an HDMI splitter (active jobbie) which sends a very strong signal a similar distance (obviously it allows multiple outputs too). This was also very cheap! Is the existing cable decent?

What source are you trying to display over the HDMI?

Hi Guys its a Marantz Blu-ray BD5004 which is sitting in the AV Rack. Also connected to the projector is a presentation laptop via VGA which is picked up on the source cycle almost instantly. I have not heard any reports good or bad about HDMI over CAT5/6 and was wondering if this was the way to go?

From experience as long as you use half decent transmitters and receivers you shouldn't have an issue. Lindy are probably your best bet for value and quality. However I have ran upto 20m HDMI in the past without issue, was it a good quality cable or not?

To be honest I don't know the make of cables as it was purchased through the site team and I have become involved because of the issues they were having really. Trouble is they have bought 2 cables from different manufacturers..Just looking now one is Nikkai (?) with no extra electronics 15m I presume and the other unbranded 20m with a small box in the centre of the cable run.

A signal amplifier on the transmission end is certainly worth a shot there.

We run most of our AV equipment over cat5 solutions, Extron products are the only ones we usually trust. if you want to use a cat5 solution i would go for the HDMI 201:

but since you have a cable already go for a HDMI 101 (Signal Booster):
