    USB stick into sound system

We're trying to see if there is a device which would allow us to plug a USB pen drive into our sound system to play audio through (like you get in some cars, plug a USB stick in and play audio through it).

My first thought would be that there would be something with a USB female connector one end and the other end would be audio cable(s) to plug into the amp input. Anyone know if there is such a thing and where we're likely to find one (and more importantly cost)? We're going through alot of CDs for 1 track for kids to use when potentially we could stick it on their pen drives and they could play them through that.

    Any suggestions?

I'm assuming you don't want a USB hifi as you've alreayd got an amp etc setup?

What about one of these? O2 - O2 Joggler: touch-screen device to organise family life.

Play tunes from USB, as well as computer streaming - might be overkill, but would look nice too :-)

Yes well we already have an expensive setup with the speakers and amp etc so was looking for more of an "addon" than reinventing what we already have. The O2 thing does look overkill and for the amount of times we'd use it (not often), may not be worth it. I thought there was a gadget for anything these days..

You do kind of need some kind of processing though, obviously to read the sound files, convert to analog, etc

I don't think theres much of a market for these as a seperate ATM

Sony make this mind.. SMP-U10 (SMPU10) : TV & Home Cinema : Sony though you'd need some kind of TV/Monitor to use the menu

I'd use an old laptop (possibly put some sort of Linux on it) or a cheap mp3 player.

Buy a car stereo head unit with mp3 usb capability, hook it up to 12v psu and feed the sound from that into your sound system?

Should make it easy for teachers to use as I guess they know how to use a car radio?

Or something like this from CPC. I think they may have some alternatives too.

Maybe something like this with a lead going into the headphone jack? August MB110 Portable Mini MP3 Hi-Fi System with FM: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

Not that pretty but would do the job.

There are plenty of consumer grade DVD players that have a USB sockets, most will probably support MP3 playback.

Philips DVP3360 | DVD player - with HDMI | Richer Sounds

Another option might be to get some cheap MP3 players, the kids could upload their files to the MP3 players which can then be fairly easily connected to the AMP.

That's what I would do. Most of the cheap and simple MPS players will let you just drag songs onto it and then you can just plug a normal 3.5mm cable in and away you go.
