    Freesat installer for Yorks/Lancs area?

    Hello,

Does anyone know of a freesat installer for the Yorkshire / Lancashire area?

Also, is Freesat licensed for schools - is it still free?

    Thanks.

The FreeSAT service is broadcast from the Astra 2 satellites at 28.2° east and Eurobird 1 satellites situated at 28.5° east (same as Sky) but you can only view the FTA (Free to Air Channels - unencrypted) not FTV Channels (Free To View).

There is nothing special in FreeSAT compared to other generic FTA satellite receivers as FreeSAT is basically an EPG (Electronic Programme Guide). The EPG does not list every single FTA channel available, only the TV Stations that have paid FreeSAT £30k to be listed. There is also a Non-FreeSAT Mode on the receivers to manually tune in these additional FTA channels.

You can receive and view more channels using a generic $ky receiver (£10 fleabay / 2nd hand) with a FTV Viewing Card that is available for a one off cost of £20. (But I don’t like $ky, so that’s why I have FreeSAT, and a generic receiver.)

The advantage with FreeSAT (as long as you purchase the HD Receiver / IDTV) is besides having the capability of receiving BBC HD, ITV 1 HD, STV HD (and soon BBC 1 HD), if connected to your internet connection most will allow the use of iPlayer (with ITV Player following soon).

As far as I am aware there are no issues with using in a school.

You could even have a go setting it up yourself (I’ve got a few dishes in my garden pointing at various satellites!)

As far as installers in Yorks/Lancs I can't help you!

Thanks for that. I've contacted a couple of local installers for quotes.

As it's FTA we'll be able to get teachers.tv

Most of the local sparkys in the area fit that stuff as its just standard install dish and cable etc, Harrison and Cross from my way probably fit it, Garnetts do as will Toobys
