    Projector Display query

Today I set up a projector and laptop for the head of MFL to display a Powerpoint to some visitors. Now while all of this went just fine, something I noticed was that the projector was very dim until she started the slide show. I went through all the power and display settings I could find but nothing seemed to have anything to do with projection or slideshows etc...

The laptop is a Dell Vostro 1510 but I forgot to note the graphics chipset apart from it being Intel.

Any ideas or experiences with this? I've never seen this before.

my projector at home, if there is no movement on the screen it dims it to conserve the bulb.

If the projector came back to full brightness when the slide show began it sounds maybe like a power / bulb life saving function as danlewis suggested.
