25th November 2009, 12:14 PM #1 Dell Projector 1800mp
I am having a nightmare scenario with 5 of these projectors they are out of warranty as of 29/9/09 and now they power on for 2 seconds then goes back to the lamp and temp light flashing. Dell can only send us refurbished projectors in 2 weeks time for the price of £400 each but if we wanted brand new ones next day then it woul cost £600 !! Dell say there is no known issues with this line of projectors but for 5 to go at once seems a little more than coincidence. We have tried to escalate it and also extend the warranty but no joy has anyone got any suggestions maybe we could send them to another company to look and repair them??
Thanks Graham.

28th November 2009, 02:57 PM #2 Unfotunatly many people are reporting problems with this model (google brings up lots) we have never found DLP projectors to be very reliable.
I would recomend moving to another make (none DLP) normal life we find on a serviced projector is around 6 to 7 years.
Parts for dell are also a problem, we always struggle when we get them in for repair.
A good classroom projector should cost between £400 to £500 and have a lamp cost of around £150 and an onsite warrenty of about 3 years.

28th November 2009, 04:30 PM #4 Yes you can get projectors under £400 but what is the on site warrenty and lamp cost like?
So many schools dont take this into account when buying a projector, and then in 3 years all the lamps become due to change eg. if you buy five it comes as a shock to find you need 5 £250 lamps.
Bit like buying a cheap car that does 5 miles per gallon.
But yes if the on site warrenty and lamp cost are good, go grab it with both hands.
We find Hitachi to be very reliable.
