Having a problem with the DVD 'Marley and Me' Its an audio related issue and whats happening is on my user account the sound works fine (admin account + Plus account i installed codecs on) on other accounts including admin accounts, im getting background music but no voices or sound effects. Now i thought this was happening all the way through the film but its only in some scenes it seems aswell. It seems its not just happening on one either its all of em. If i try playing the DVD without the codecs i get a stupid error message telling me to update my graphics driver. Were using the K Lite codec pack on the laptops the latest ones. I have tried installed a different sound codec and that didnt work either. I have tried installed the XP Codecs pack and one other codec pack and the DVD just wouldnt run at all with them installed. Anyone got any ideas? Seems as though its something to do with the Copy Protection on it not sure though.
Been having this problem a lot recently (on Tosh A300s); it seems to be something to do with the Dolby processing (as non-surround discs are fine). I suspect someone else will have a more elegant and/or techie fix, but I've been bodging it by using KMPlayer and downmixing the sound to mono - not ideal, but fine for class use.

KM Player ill give it a try thanksim not after a fix that'll involve fiddling just want somat that'll work and is easy to get going!
This can be caused by the computer trying to output to 5.1/6.1/7.1 through two speakers.
IIRC you have to tell XP / the sound card it only has two speakers.
first of all sound card settings - have you got them set to stereo or surround sound - if a real tek sound card you should have a control panel or its own software to configure audio settings so if the audio card you have installed has any of its own software try and set the audio settings through the audio cards util / software instead of setting through windows audio settings
Also in the software player you are using have you got the audio settings set correctly for stereo and not surround sound or dolby digital and also before you click on play to play the dvd some of these discs have a settings menu where you can swap between audio types ( possibly try swapping between audio types )
Also VLC is a good player to test these discs on to see if you have the same issue ? VLC media player - Open Source Multimedia Framework and Player
If you are still having issues after this post back
I use Media Player Classic with these settings to get round the problem.

still having the issue on KMPlayer will try VLC and Librarians solution
update: found a solution in having to log on as individual users (using klite codecs) go to tools under klitecodecs in start menu. set speakers to 2.0 then after do the thing librarian suggested restart media player classic and it works then, this has to be done for every single user that logs on the laptop as we dont have roaming profiles either soSHOULD BE FUN!!!!!!!!
