Video Editing Open Source

i have read some old threads but some are OLD.

looking for a free alternative to movie maker as we are having problems with it crashing etc, really bored of trying to fix it now, too much other work to do.

so any good free (can be open source) video editing apps

nice time line like movie maker is needed and transitions.

PS i am hoping all will be fine when i clean up packages over summer and rebuild but a backup plan is a good idea me thinks

If you're prepared to upgrade to Linux you could use Kdenlive.
