SMART Notebook 11.1 and MS Powerpoint?

    Hi all,

First off, I REALLY HATE Smart Notebook

This has to be the WORST piece of software I think I have ever used

anyway, we have deployed Notebook 11.1 to various XP and 7 machines. There are a host of issues such as

Smart Board drivers not being detected on boot
    Smart Ink not loading properly
    Powerpoint not working correctly

I can get around the first two issues, but not the Powerpoint one. The plugin is installed ok. The pens do write over the slides, BUT not correctly. When you pick up the red pen, it doesn't know you have done so. You have to open the little menu (bottom left) and select pen > red before it starts to write. It's the same with the eraser, you have to select it from the menu.

    any ideas?

    Hi Glen,

We had issues with the smart drivers not picking up the board when staff logged on, and after an age on the phone to tch support have resorted to creating a local GPO with settings in the 'Run these programs at user logon'. And then smartboardtools, smartboard service and smartink included.

Still having issues with smart ink and powerpoints in presentation mode but this may be a setting somewhere.
I noticed today that notbook 11.3 (and drivers) are out so are now trialling these

I have just rolled out 11.3 (did it this afternoon). Spent four hours writing an install script to cover all bases.

unfortunately 11.3 it doesn't fix of the niggles. My installation routine puts smartboardtools, smartboard service and smartink shortcuts in the 'all users' startup folder.

What a pathetic piece of software it is!

I'll post my script on monday when im back in

    This is just crazy now

Deployed to a handful of windows 7 machines. None are working.

Seems the smartboard tools exe file has gone in 11.3 and the only way to get the toolbar is (right-click on the tray icon / enable floating tools). Surprise surprise, drivers and smark ink still doesn't work after a reboot.

Had a meeting with the IT manager and we are looking at alternatives now, to be honest, the software has NEVER worked properly.

:EDIT: ahhh...seems the staff at Smart decided a rename would be a good idea. Floating Tools.exe is what brings the toolbar up! Time to start scripting again :-(

A heads up for anyone experiencing difficulties launching the SMARTboard Service ... try the -d switch after the command line to launch the service, on v10 it didn't need any command line parameter, however v11 seems to need this ...

    "c:\Program Files (x86)\SMART Technologies\Education Software\smartboardservice.exe" -d

My colleague managed to glean this information from SMART, but it doesn't seem to be documented as smartboardservice.exe doesn't give you anything useful from /? or -h for help.
