Personally I would build a plyboard frame around the projector with fans built in to the back. Then I would give it a plexiglass front cover and then the projector is completely encased if you get the glass correct it shouldnt make a difference to the picture

May be a little over kill... but an alternative way of doing it (and I have no idea of cost):

    Draper Projector Lifts

    Just a thought...

    Cheers

A good thought, and they do look pretty impressive... sadly there's no room above the ceiling, it's just the roof... also it's too low down so the lift would have to be massive lol... there's no such thing as a bad idea though! :-p

Would cutting a hole in the roof count as a bad idea

another random suggestion, could you hinge at the top of the pole and have wire attached to winch the projector so it stows at roof level (make it more difficult to hit), then winch back down when needed for use? May be able to keep it from being hit as much, and as the only movement would be in a single direction to fixed points, should be fairly consistent?

Went across to have a look before, and realised my perfect solution wasn't quite as perfect... there's no where really to fix the cage to, and there's a track along side it for netting... See photo...

    Back to the drawing board...

Weld a couple of rods to the curtain track? (I assume the cage is turning, which is then meaning the projector has turned as well?)

We had a similar conundrum when we decided to put up something in our youth centre which is used outside of school hours by youth services for basketball, football etc.

    We ended up doing this;

Plasma enclosure | Digital Signage protection for Outdoor or Harsh Environments | Armagard Ltd. with a 60" TV in it (thanks @Millgate for the install and supply )

    Works a treat

Doesnt help you so sorry for that, might be an alternative solution for someone else looking into a projector solution in an area which is used for sport etc.

That's pretty good... the screen we're projecting onto is 5m x 3.75m, so a bit too small really...

I have suggested removing the screen and just painting the wall white so if it moves slightly, it won't be quite as noticeable...

Hi, slightly different setup but this is something we did for one of our customers recently.

    http://www.educareavservices.co.uk/hallcageepson.jpg

The cage was made from 4mm stainless steel with 50mm squares.

That's exactly the kind of thing I was thinking about... however, ours isn't a short-throw projector, and is mounted suspended from the ceiling... so I've given up thinking of something for this... I think Willott's idea of using the tracks is the best so far...

I hope that helps others looking though :O)

It might of been a better solution to have mounted the projector on the opposite wall and had a custom long throw lens made. This way you could of had a cage mounted around it. If the projector is sustaining hits from balls I doubt the lamp lasting very long, especially if its hot when it takes a hit.

I'll bear that in mind... it'll be switched off when it's happening - it's all external groups using the hall for sports... our kids would never dream of doing anything like that (glad I work where I do! lol), and the lens is changeable, so we may have to look into that...
