  1. Capita SIMS Developments for 2013 - SIMs Learning Gateway

    by , 30th January 2013 at 11:10 AM
A departure from my normal blog topics to something even more relevant to a lot of schools than my normal writings.

SIMS is a School Management database, written and supported by Capita Education Services. 6 months has passed since I was invited to join Capita at their Annual Conference to see and write about forthcoming changes, as well as report back on the year (and ask the awkward questions from the community). In this post, Im going to pick up on SIMS Learning ...
  2. System Centre... playing with Service Manager

    by , 30th November 2012 at 11:26 PM
Ok, so I think people who follow my work often will know that Im a bit of a fan of the whole System Centre thing (yes - I know ive spelt System Centre properly, not the American "Center" that gets used everywhere!).

You see, Configuration Manager - formerly Systems Management Server has always been a winner for me; but the real power now comes if you extend the stort by combining the elements of the suite together. System Centre is designed so that its components share information ...
  3. Customizing SharePoint Usage Stats - Part Three

    by , 23rd February 2011 at 09:43 AM
Revisiting this, we may now be going down a completely different path (which I feel little, if any, regret about). I came in the other morning to loads of reports of errors with sharepoint 2010.

After a while I found out the errors were only showing when people tried to add things to the database like files or announcements. On looking at the logs we have this error message

CREATE DATABASE or ALTER DATABASE failed because the resulting cumulative database size would

  5. Replacing Microsoft Exchange with Live@Edu.... NOT SO FAST!!

    , 8th December 2010 at 04:52 PM

OK, so I heard a great quote on twitter a while back:

"In 5 years time, running an exchange server will be like running your own nuclear power plant to heat your home"

This sounds like a sensible statement to me and since we have an aging Exchange 2003 server I thought I would look into being an early adopter of their "Live@EDU" cloud based email system.

  6. Sharepoint Webpart tips for c#

by , 28th April 2010 at 09:40 AM (Wandering lonely as a clown...)
I've posted a new blog entry about creating sharepoint web parts in c#, covering some of the initial questions I had when I started out.
