    With the recent spotlight on malware and computer security I want to share some of the tricks I have discovered whilst reading up on it. And yes, some of these can affect multiple platforms (Windows/OSX/etc).

    Google Image Poisoning: The act of using Google Image Search to trick users into visiting infected pages. Images related to popular topics on Twitter or the news are pushed high up the ranks of searches relating to that topic. Victims search for said topic in their droves, click ...

    After acquiring a new HTC Wildfire S and trying to sign up (still unsuccesfully) to the My Orange site, I was greeted with this Captcha:

    Server Recommendation Please-massive-tooders.jpg

    Not even Google knows what a tooder is, why they are massive or why there are more then one so I guess you will need to use your own imagination.

    I run Sharepoint 2010 on a hyper-v server which I backup each term.
    Now these backup images are starting to get pretty huge at about 50gb so I thought I would look into reducing the footprint on the sharepoint server.

    After a bit of googling I came up with these solutions

    - Turn off IIS logging
    IIS Manager >> sites >> sharepoint >> logging >> do not create log files ...

    by , 10th May 2011 at 10:35 PM
    Has anyone looked at any tools to save passwords for most of the applications that users use. In particular Fronter and e-Portal. I have been asked to look at a tool that allows seamless access to applications without having to remember multipe userid and passwords.

  8. Upset UPS

    by , 6th May 2011 at 03:30 PM
    Had one of those days today that we all dread as technicians/network managers. Walk into the office this morning and pounced upon by various members of staff shouting "No one can log on!"

    Into the Server room and all the servers apart from one is switched on and running. The main DC which also houses the CSE Database is dead as a dodo.

    Initial indication would be a power failure, but no, all others UPS' are running and not reporting an issue. Power up the ...

  9. Excel 2010 - Printer Fails to Communicate

    by , 5th May 2011 at 02:52 PM (It looks like you are trying to write a blog...)
    Long term users of Excel VBA will be familiar with slow processing of page set up if code like the following is used:

    With ActiveWorksheet.PageSetup
    .CenterHeader = "Title of the Worksheet"
    .LeftFooter = "Today's Date"
    .RightFooter = "Page &P of &N"
    .PrintArea = "$A$1:$H$28"
    End With

    The problem with the code is that, despite the use of the With statement, each line requires a call to the printer driver, rather than the whole statement ...
