  1. VOIP'd up!

    by , 26th January 2012 at 05:37 PM
Monday was the big day for us this week; we've switched over on Friday afternoon to our new fully IP based system consisting of a Splicecom Maximiser 5100 Call Server supporting 118 phones. So far, so good with it all appearing to be working well and recieved well by all staff.

It has however been a long time in planning; with support from the community on here as a whole I felt it only right to detail my experience over the last few months.

    I've been fortunate that ...

  2. In other news...

Hey look. A blog post that isn't Project Borg related.

It's pony related. [Among other things] [[censored] ponies... how do they work?]

I'm sitting around herping, derping and generally searching things on the interweb when our Head of Math asks me about my desktop wallpaper.

So far, it's been described as bambi, "that white guy with blue hair and the dog in the collar"[?]... no-one had actually asked what it was.

    by , 24th January 2012 at 04:57 PM
Hello again! This is the continuing travel log of my attempts to build a new virtual infrastructure, so if you've not read part one, this might seem very specific and strange. How're the flying cars?)

I'm still optimistically cross-posting this to my actual blog as well in the hopes that I actually ...
  4. Hmmm...

It seems the project will have to be on hold for a bit while I sort out documentation.

Everything I have references software that doesn't work. [and things like chkconfig... which I can't use.]

I'm going to find alternatives and start again from scratch.

This time using Ubuntu 11.10 [Server]. If it works... Which it didn't an hour ago.

Hopefully, it will have all the necessary software installed.

  5. How To Guide: Deploy VNC via Group Policy

    by , 23rd January 2012 at 11:19 PM
I originally posted this in the forums, but i think it fits here better.

I have had a few people ask how to deploy VNC via group policy. If you have a large network where you want to install VNC on a large amount of computers this would be an ideal solution.

For this guide i used TightVNC - the website is here: tightvnc.com

I decide to go for TightVNC becuase

    • Easy to use
    • Free
    • Ability to hide the icon in the system tray
    • Built in
