    Sorry for the missed weeks - we launched a cashless catering system that has eaten all of my time.

    We now find ourselves in the last week of term, when no-one can be bothered to do any learning, staff or students, so there didn't seem much point in sending out an IT tip. I thought I'd send something slightly different out instead: ICT Tip 057 - Strawberry & Cinnamon Torte.doc

    One of my most frequently performed tasks under Active Directory is creating new users. Every time I do this I used to have to manually set/create the users home folder and ensure they were a member of the appropriate groups and other repetitive things that MS sadly neglected to simplify for Server 2008. This is no longer the case thanks to Active User Manager, a very useful and free tool that I have successfully used

    It's amazing just how easy it is to crack passwords these days, Nate Anderson from ArsTechnica a self confessed script-kiddie shows in his article just how easy it was to crack 4,000 passwords in the space of a minute!

    We all know how to build complex passwords:


    • Include mixed cases, letters, number, symbols
    • Change passwords regularly
    • Avoid names especially of people you know
    • And don't repeat old passwords

  4. Manage Engine vs Microsoft System Center 2007/2012

    Hi there just interested if anyone has used Manage Engine Desktop as opposed to SCCM???? I find SCCM clunky and time consuming at the best of times and found that Manage Engine has a lot to offer. Also I'm using a product to edit .exe to msi....http://emcosoftware.com/ msi package builder and have fond this to be useful as we have a lot of software. I'd be happy to hear what others are using for deploying software and images as I find SCCM a little too heavy at times. Don't get me wrong I do ...
