  1. Photography: Old meets new

    by , 31st July 2012 at 10:33 AM
I've been interested in photography for years; I had a Praktica MTL5 35mm camera for a Christmas present in the early '80s. This was, and still is, an excellent camera. I still have it and it still works. Using a manual camera teaches you far more about photography than an automatic camera.

A few film SLRs later, namely a Canon EOS 1000F then upgraded to the truly excellent Canon EOS 600 35mm SLR. My first digital SLR was an Olympus E10. A superb camera, brilliant quality and excellent ...

  2. Olympics 2012 -crazy waste of money.

    by , 27th July 2012 at 07:21 PM (Speckytecky's Blog)
Boy, Oh, boy, am I fed up with the whole Olympics 2012 thing. When London was announced as the winning venue I thought it was a great idea. Now, however, I am totally fed up with it all and it's not actually started yet!

Twenty seven million quid on the opening ceremony today. Someone is taking the country for a ride and having a laugh. That money could have done so much good. Three million on the Olympic Rings dangling under Tower Bridge - another crazy waste of money.

  3. Adventures in iTunesland... my experience with iTunes Match

    by , 20th July 2012 at 10:48 PM
I realise that this may not be an especially fashionable point of view on this and other boards (but it will be on certain ones!) but I like Apple. I've owned Apple computers since around 2008 since it became clear that Vista was a complete train wreck and I wanted something at home which I wasn't going to need spending hours buggering about with. Anyway, I bought an iMac and haven't looked back since. In the time since then, I've become a bit of a fanboy and I've bought an Apple Time Capsule (Sold ...

  4. Gone to the Darkside...and I Love It!! :)

    by , 20th July 2012 at 07:32 PM
For years I have had HTC phones, started off with a HTC Hero and then to a HTC Sensation...I loved how you could load a custom ROM and improve the software, when HTC had stopped doing updates, normally the dev's carried on.

For a little while my HTC kept rebooting or switching itself off and I wouldnt notice till I took it out of my pocket, anyways I went to pickup my girlfriend from the airport and we had arranged to meet at the long stay car park (big car park ages away from the ...

  5. So, the upgrade and migration begins.

    by , 20th July 2012 at 07:00 PM
Didn't get a lot done today, and probably not as much as I'd have liked yesterday with it being the end of term but mostly because some esteemed colleagues were leaving (some of their own accord, some not so much). It's hard watching people that were so obviously well respected and regarded by staff and students alike being pushed out especially when those people have made your own arrival into a new place of work so much easier by offering a listening ear or making you laugh. So the last couple ...

  6. Capita LA Conference 2012 - Alton Towers - Learning Gateway Product Update

    by , 10th July 2012 at 04:00 PM
Post 3 in this mini-series giving you the information from the Capita LA Event... and up this time; a bit of history of the SIMS Learning Gateway product with where it's headed. Incidentally at this point - this is probably the worst product name! It is NOT - never has been, never will be, was never supposed to be - a Learning Gateway. Nor was it ever going to be a replacement for SIMS.net! I did have some great discussions with Phil Neal and new product manager Ben Jones about this.

  7. Capita LA Conference 2012 - Alton Towers - Key Note: Tony Travers

    by , 8th July 2012 at 08:00 PM
This post continues from my last - discussing the themes and news from the Capita LA Conference. I know this will come as a surprise to some, who will have been expecting more "geeky" System Centre or HyperV stuff - but my community work will also form my blogs too!

The Key Note speech at the event was made by Tony Travers. Tony Travers is Director of the London School of Economics and Political Science, a research centre at the London School of Economics. He is also a Visiting ...

  8. Capita LA Conference 2012 - Alton Towers - The Year in Review

    by , 7th July 2012 at 08:28 PM
A departure from some of my more recent posts about System Centre - now time to concentrate on more of the Consultancy and Technology Evangelism Im also involved with.

This time, I was very fortunate to be invited to the Capita SIMS LA Conference, held at Alton Towers. Thanks must go to Cath Lane and her team, as well as Phil Neal and the Product Managers who spared their time to talk to me. This is the first of a selection of posts which will appear this week discussing the themes ...

  9. British Grand Prix 2012. A lesson in not being a moron.

    by , 7th July 2012 at 12:02 PM
Right, I've had it. I've had it up to my eyeballs with the media and countless thousands of moronic sheep whining about the Grand Prix currently.
"OMG we can't get in!" "We can't park" and "It's ALL SILVERSTONE'S FAULT".

Why do people get a bit annoyed (understandable tbh) then after seeing someone else's annoyance, automatically attach to their state of mind and change from a sensible human being into a mindless moronic sheep. Sheeple.

  10. SCCM 2007 Native Mode - fun with certificates

    by , 5th July 2012 at 04:11 PM
This is going to be a quick one while it is fresh in my mind because if I don't write this down straight away it will never get written down (see: the rest of the virtualization posts. Or rather, don't see them, because I stopped writing them when I got too busy getting on with it).

Pretty much every guide I see on SCCM2007, including windows-noob.com and @TheScarfedOne's excellent missives here, say to install in mixed mode. Pfft, says I, how boring and ...
