  1. System Centre... playing with Service Manager

    by , 30th November 2012 at 11:26 PM
Ok, so I think people who follow my work often will know that Im a bit of a fan of the whole System Centre thing (yes - I know ive spelt System Centre properly, not the American "Center" that gets used everywhere!).

You see, Configuration Manager - formerly Systems Management Server has always been a winner for me; but the real power now comes if you extend the stort by combining the elements of the suite together. System Centre is designed so that its components share information ...

  3. Ease of Access - Full Screen Magnifer

    by , 29th November 2012 at 01:19 PM
Haven't blogged for a while, but like too when I get one of those 'I didn't realise that' moments.....

We've got a number of Visually Impaired kids here at the school, who make use of the Magnifer built into Windows 7. I've got them in a seperate security group which switches on an extra folder in the Start Menu giving access to the Ease of Access tools. Always thought it worked well, select magnifier and a docked version of the application runs. However, I was informed today that ...
  4. Setting Printers through Group encore... (and the death of Scripts)

    by , 21st November 2012 at 10:25 PM
Well, I know its been a long time since my last published blog post! The truth is Ive been working on a few for a while now - but just never got round to finishing any of them.

Heres the first of my next batch... a return to an earlier thread of posts, originally related to Printing on Remote Desktop.

First, a bit of background... traditionally, most systems will be set up to map printers via a logon script. The script typically checks a machine name and adds the appropriate ...
  5. Codeacademy and Google Chrome Frame

    by , 14th November 2012 at 10:32 AM
After reading last months PC Pro, I wanted to investigate and see if it would work with our teaching.

First issue with codeacademy is that it doesn't like IE and flatly refuses to play ball with it. One option is to install Chrome across the site, but I'd had issues getting Chrome to play ball with my network before, and wasn't too keen on trying again. So I choose option 2, install Google Frame. Installing it locally was easy, but a network install could prove ...
  6. RE: SIMS Learning Gateway vs TASC Insight

    by , 13th November 2012 at 01:13 PM

I would just some information on the differences between the SIMS Learning Gateway (SLG) and TASC Insight.

Is it possible to do the same with Insight as with the SLG?
    Which do people prefer (opinions)?
    User Friendliness, Which seems better?
Any problems with either that people have noticed?
    and finally...
Any limitations which people have noticed between the two?

I know this is a lot of information been asked for, but we ...
  7. Kubuntu Files: Audio Woes Ahoy!

    , 4th November 2012 at 09:16 PM (100 Grades Per Minute)
I've always had a soft spot for KDE, so when switching to Ubuntu on my primary home machine it was a no brainer to pick Kubuntu 12.10 over it's Unity-packing parent distro. So far the system has set itself up extremely quickly and given virtually no problems at all beyond a mouse cursor that refuses to stick to the style I tell it to, irritating but hardly a deal breaker. Given the last time I installed Ubuntu I was left seekign network drivers and spending hours getting a laptop to even start this ...
