I’ve finally got round to rustling up a little utility to allow me to ping a computer without having to open a command prompt. Instead, all a user of lzPingLaunch has to do is press Alt+Period/Full stop, enter the address in the box and press enter. I intend to grow this app to have a bit more functionality in the future but whilst keeping to a rule of ‘never more than a couple of key presses away’ for ...
Ok, before you ask - I did not go AWOL! LOL - I'm still about, just taking a short break.... check, done. Right... next odd thing - Im writing about something non-sharepoint! OK, no lynching me James... Ever experienced a random complete slowdown? Well, it happens from time to time, and sometimes Im even lucky enough to nail it to a particular part of the network or group of machines. Either that or someone is doing some serious downloading - usually one of my techs ...
A short post today, partly in preparation for a longer review of the courses from the FITS Foundation, but mainly in response to Ray Fleming’s latest blog post. One of the areas we covered on the FITS : Advanced course (also known as the FITS : Manager course) was about financial management … but, as with all of the areas covered, it was not dealt in isolation. For all of us on the course it was a good chance to look at all financial aspects which impact on IT / ICT in schools. ...
A few things I didn't realise about the Windows key in Windows 7: - The Windows key plus any number "clicks" on the corresponding icon pinned to the start menu, reading from left to right. - Use Windows key and space to hide all windows until you release the Windows key. - Windows key and = will zoom in with Magnifier by 100% per press of the key. - Windows key and Home did err, something. It's funny, I don't usual blog and tend to pop on Edugeek with problems but it's a great resource and one I'm very pleased to have found (otherwise I think by now I'd have given up all hope, especially after the last couple of weeks). But the latest problem, how to migrate a load of files, preserve permissions and do it dead easily. I've used Robocopy with the GUI in the past to move files and it worked a dream, however for whatever reason (probably me being dumb) I ...

The former LGfL Portal of choice, Digitalbrain, will be closing it's doors at the end of July. Anyone still using the service will need to back-up their Digitalbrain content by the 31st July as anything could happen to it after that time. Namely websites ending up in the virtual limbo of Internet Time Machine sites and Google Cache but I wouldn't rely on those as a hosting solution.
The EduGeek conference in Chorley went very well this year, with suppliers and school technical staff alike descending on the Woodlands Conference centre for another day of talks, raffles and free coffee and curries. There was much on the agenda with software such as the EduGeek Logon Tracker to the mind-blowing Mobotix cameras and a glimpse to the future from Microsoft's teams of anthropologists predicting what IT will be like in 2019. Please note that, while links to companies and ...
