Hi today I've decided to post about Operating systems today as it does kind of follow on from my last post. Once you have your PC built, you will need an operating system the most popular is Microsoft Windows. There are multiple versions listed below,

These are the earliest versions of the Operating System.

Windows 1.0 - Released 1985. Known as MS-DOS Executive, it also came with Calculator, Calendar, Cardfile, Clipboard viewer, Clock, Control Panel, Notepad, Paint, Reversi, Terminal and Write. In this version windows were tiled and couldn't over lap. Only dialog boxes could appear on top of other windows. Windows 2.0 - Released in 1987. It had several improvements to the User Interface and Memory Management. This version allowed windows to overlap each other, also more complex keyboard shortcuts were introduced, it could also make use of Extended Memory. Windows 2.1x - Two different versions were released. Windows/386 and Windows/286.
Early 90's

Windows 3.0 - Released in 1990. Improved the design, this was because of the virtual memory and loadable virtual device drivers that allowed them to share arbitrary devices between multi-tasked DOS windows. Windows 3.1 - Released in 1992. Improvements were the same as the one released in 1990.
Mid - Late 90's

Windows 95 - Released in 1995. It had a whole new Interface, it also supported long file names (up to 255 characters). It also automatically detected and configured installed hardware (known as plug and play) Windows 98 - Released in 1998. Microsoft released another version in 1999 called Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows 98 SE
