  1. ICT Tip #64 - Cut, Copy, Paste

    by , 18th March 2014 at 03:11 PM
Another covering-the-basics tip this week, but again - you'd be amazed how many don't know the difference. You'll see people copy then delete, or cut and paste twice, or copy every time they want to paste... sometimes it's worth spelling things out obviously: ICT Tip 064 - Cut, Copy & Paste.doc

  2. ICT Tip #56 - Selecting Multiple Items

So this is a pretty dull tip, but you'd be amazed how few people know this stuff.

  3. ICT Tip #48 - Switching Windows with Alt+Tab

    by , 26th June 2013 at 01:42 PM
Another late post - although I have a good excuse this time, I was busy in the ultrasound room for my wife's 20 week scan yesterday

Following on from last week's look-at-the-shiny-3D-effect ICT Tip #47 - Switching Windows with Win+Tab, this week we have the much more useful, useable and sensible alternative: ICT Tip 048 - Switching Windows with Alt+Tab.doc

Best of luck in getting your users to use it

  4. ICT Tip #47 - Switching Windows with Win+Tab

One of those quick little tips that makes life much easier - albeit I opted to show the shiny version to people first, because some people are forever impressed by a little bit of 3D gimmickry. It's like Alt+Tab but less useful, it's... ICT Tip 047 - Switching Windows with Win+Tab.doc!

I don't know why I bother trying to build up suspense when I name the tip in the title of every post
  5. ICT Tip #46 - Screenshots in Word

    by , 12th June 2013 at 02:59 PM
Continuing a theme from last week's Snipping Tool, if you're working in Word 2010 you can directly insert screen captures into a document - something else I had to have pointed out to me (by my wife, in this instance). Short and sweet and oh so useful: ICT Tip 046 - Insert Screenshot in Word.doc

  6. ICT Tip #41 - Using Tab to move between inputs

    by , 9th May 2013 at 12:27 PM
I have been really lax with this, sorry. Missed last week and late this week. Can you tell that I've hit the traditional pre-Summer ramping up of work?

#40 gets skipped out as it was only relevant internally, so on to #41 - a simple one that you and I couldn't live without, yet remains a mystery to most: ICT Tip 041 - Using Tab to move between input fields.doc

Nevermore will you struggle to bite your tongue as a user types out their username, then reaches for the mouse, overshoots the password box, ...
  7. Installing a PHP/MySQL Development Server for students on Windows Server 2012 - Part1

    by , 26th April 2013 at 04:28 PM
This is going to get lengthy. In the interests of keeping it under control, I'm going to assume you know what you're doing to a certain extent.

With all the curriculum changes in ICT/Computer Science, our head of ICT wants to start teaching more PHP, which sounds like a grand plan to me (that's where my degree is, so of course I know that PHP is the best of all scripting languages).

I have no real experience in setting up Linux servers for the usual LAMP paradigm, so I ...

  8. Virtual Insanity: Part Two - Opening Windows

    by , 24th January 2012 at 04:57 PM
Hello again! This is the continuing travel log of my attempts to build a new virtual infrastructure, so if you've not read part one, this might seem very specific and strange. I'm not claiming to write The Guide here, I'm just jotting down my experiences as I go in the hopes it helps someone (and possibly future me if I go through this again. Hello future me! How're the flying cars?)

I'm still optimistically cross-posting this to my actual blog as well in the hopes that I actually ...
